The majority of my life has been influenced by the work I do with the Apostolic Oblates of the Pro Sanctity Movement. These are consecrated laywomen whose mission is to spread the Universal Call to Holiness. In turn, I have adopted this as the mission of this blog, particularly among the youth of the Church.
The youth of today’s Church are searching and striving for happiness. But they’re looking in all the wrong places: material things, good feelings, power, and honor. Indeed they find happiness, but it is short-lived. And so in order to replenish it, they resort to these things again and again, until what necessarily follows is addiction.
The YOUCAT reveals to us the source of eternal happiness:
God has placed in our hearts such an infinite desire for happiness that nothing can satisfy it but God himself. All earthly fulfillment gives us only a foretaste of eternal happiness. Above and beyond that, we should be drawn to God.
Such a relationship with God is exactly what it means to be holy. Mother Teresa said we should allow God to live his life in us.
In reflecting on how to best spread the Universal Call to Holiness, I almost immediately thought of starting a blog. What better way to send a message to young people than via the Internet? So that’s exactly what I did! The blog was called Be holy! Be happy! and for a short time I posted some thoughts on holiness. But it really didn’t gain the traction I was hoping for among the youth.
I stand with Pope Benedict XVI when he says that the “youth of today are not as superficial as some think.” Their hearts are longing for the happiness that only God can give. They want to know him and fall in love with him and give their lives to him.
I had to take a step back and examine what kinds of things are attractive to young people. Be holy! Be happy! wasn’t working, and I had to figure out why. I examined a website that is extremely popular among young people today for the answer. Although Brotips caters to the perversions of our society, it seemed to employ a remarkably effective method of transmitting a message to young people.
Reflecting on all of this gave way to Soultips, which has a similar look and feel to Brotips, but which imparts a more grace-filled, transcendent message: the message holiness. Here is published a daily quote from the ones who got it right - the saints (and those whose cause for sainthood has been opened). When striving to live a holy life, who better to seek counsel from than the saints themselves?
It is my hope that this website will increase the fire of love within you, your enthusiasm for living the Christian life, and your response to God’s call to holiness.
